Our Story

Tay Valley Connections is our new name and represents our commitment to the many facets of building strong, mutually-supportive community. We have grown from our original incarnation as ‘Deeds for needs’, a timebank originally established in Aberfeldy by PKVAS (Perth And Kinross Association Of Voluntary Service) in 2017.

We began to outgrow this remit when we were asked to do something about the inadequate public transport services in the area. We explored the problem and developed a transport strategy to help called ‘Upper Tay Transport’.  This involved facilitating and providing transport options in the area. We developed a plan that would address the existing needs and provide solutions including improved access and Active Travel provisions as well as addressing the Green agenda.

Then Covid came along.  As a volunteer organisation we were so pleased to have so many volunteers help us in doing shopping , delivering medicines , providing support and PPI to  people housebound during lock-down, so we grew and learned a great deal.

We then developed our base in the Locus Centre and started running the Aberfeldy Information Centre for Locus Breadalbane Ltd the community owners.

Going forward we realised that our name was becoming confusing in what it is offering so we have looked at ourselves and brought these diverse activities under one roof, called ‘Tay Valley Connections’.

We are an ambitious organisation with a big agenda for community, provided by our fantastic volunteers, supported by our staff, Eileen and Jean, and our Board of Trustees.
